Is there something in your life that  you feel is holding  you back?
Hypnotherapy can help you overcome conditions that may be preventing you from making progress in your life.

Hypnotherapy appointments are available within the Glasgow/Renfrewshire area, with a variety of flexible times and locations to provide choice and accessibility.

Some conditions can be treated in one session. Additional sessions may be needed for more complex issues.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis and the hypnotic state to bring about changes in the way a person thinks, feels or behaves.

This is a powerful therapeutic tool with the capacity to improve many physical, emotional and mental symptoms of numerous human conditions. Hypnotherapy can be used to resolve many inner conflicts resulting from stress, phobias, anxiety and addictions or cravings (including to smoking or food). It can also be used to relieve pain and various physical symptoms of illness.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a totally safe and natural state of deep relaxation; a light trance state, where the unconscious mind is more open to positive suggestions.

During this state, you are completely aware and in control. You can hear everything the Hypnotherapist says and you are pleasantly relaxed and comfortable. This natural state is experienced by everyone, every single day. For example, that lovely, relaxed feeling we experience just before going to sleep and the dreamy phase when we wake up. This trance state also occurs when we drift away into our own thoughts when watching TV, doing the ironing or even when driving, where we come to and have travelled a distance without even realising it.

What happens in a hypnotherapy session?

A hypnotherapy session typically lasts for a minimum of one hour. After a consultation about the issues, the trained Hypnotherapist will devise an appropriate treatment which will be carried out under hypnosis.

After inducing the relaxed trance state described above, the Hypnotherapist can make positive suggestions previously agreed with the client. This allows the powerful ability of the unconscious mind to make helpful changes to their life. Sometimes the Hypnotherapist will make other suggestions for tasks to be carried out to help you. Also, a CD will be given to each client to listen to. This will reinforce the work done and help them maintain a relaxed state of mind beyond the appointment.

Treatable conditions

There are many issues or clinical conditions that Hypnotherapy can be used to treat including:

Phobias (of any sort),  interview and performance anxiety, fear of public speaking, anxiety, weight control, obsessive behaviours and OCD, pain control, recovery from trauma, snoring, sports performance, stop smoking, stress management, teeth grinding, bad habits (such as nail biting), creativity and visualisation, dental phobia, depression, exam nerves, driving and driving test confidence, fear of flying, healing the body, insomnia and disturbed sleep, lack of confidence.

What hypnotherapy is not

Hypnotherapy is never authoritarian. In other words, you are always in complete control.

It is not Stage Hypnosis where hypnotists use hypnosis on willing participants for entertainment purposes. Hypnotherapy is not about eating onions thinking they are apples or imagining yourself to be a chicken!

Anyone can be hypnotised, but not everyone should be. Hypnosis should never be used with anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

It is also contra-indicated for people with certain medical conditions. A qualified Hypnotherapist may request your GP's permission to use hypnosis to treat you. This is to ensure that the hypnotherapy is compatible with the treatment you already receive.
